CITV have commissioned a brand new animated comedy adventure series for broadcast summer 2019, from The Illuminated Film Company.
‘Rubbish! So rubbish!’
Not what you might expect for the opening words announcing a new animated comedy adventure series. But then ‘THE RUBBISH WORLD OF DAVE SPUD’ is not your average series. Targeting children aged 6 to 11, the series focuses on the somewhat anarchic though close knit Spud family and their amazing escapades.
Created by the series director Ed Foster and developed by The Illuminated Film Company, the scripts have attracted major comedy talent. Johnny Vegas voices the eponymous hero Dave Spud, with Gina Yashere as his best friend, Gareth the Starfish. Also featured are Phillip Glenister, Colin McFarlane, Lisa Hammond and Jane Horrocks, taking on the various roles as Dave’s family…Mum, Dad, sister Anna and battle-axe Gran, exiled to her caravan next to their tower block flat.
The series follows Dave Spud and the Spud family and friends as they enjoy the ordinary things in life but it’s never long before the world starts to misbehave around Dave.
Producer Iain Harvey observed that just keeping the Spud family in order would be a full time task. ‘Thankfully, laughter is the best medicine of all.’ The Rubbish World of Dave Spud is an Illuminated Film Company production, commissioned for CITV by Paul Mortimer, Director of Digital Channels.
Emma Barnard will be Commissioning Editor for the series. Emma said, “The Rubbish World of Dave Spud is a welcome addition to the CITV roster of original programming. This new animated adventure series will see Dave Spud and co embark on some very unexpected, fun and crazy adventures”.
Internationally, the series is being represented by Beta Film.
